Bend Contemporary Dance is a collective of adult dancers living, dancing and performing in Bend, OR. BCD offers classes and workshops in many contemporary dance styles year round.
CLASSES
Intermediate/Advanced
The Intermediate/Advanced technique class is influenced by the foundations of modern dance and contemporary practices(release technique, GAGA, Countertechnique etc.). This class is designed to help students move dynamically with proper alignment, easily transition in and out of the floor, and play with musicality. Classical training, Pilates, and yoga are important tools that are used to help students gain an understanding of healthy alignment. Class structure includes floorwork, center work, and moving across the floor and culminates in combinations that combine all of the class ingredients. Students will build strength, flexibility, and endurance and have fun flying through space. Classes will build from week to week, but drop ins are welcome. Previous training is highly encouraged.
Beginning Class
The beginning adult contemporary class will introduce students to the basic skills of contemporary dance technique. Contemporary dance is influenced by the foundations of modern dance and fused with contemporary practices(release technique, GAGA, Countertechnique etc.). Students will learn the fundamentals of contemporary floor work, traveling steps, and simple choreography. Classical training, Pilates, and yoga are important tools that will be used to help students gain an understanding of healthy alignment. Not only will students learn the basics of contemporary dance, but they will also get a great workout, build strength and flexibility and most of all have fun! The mission of this class is to make dancing an empowering experience for students of all backgrounds, ages, and fitness levels, and to build community. Basic exercises will be repeated from week to week to build on familiarity with the material and deepen understanding of fundamentals. No previous dance experience is needed.
PERFORMANCES
Bend Contemporary Dance has participated in many collaborative productions in Bend, OR. BCD has showcased work at the Central Oregon Dance Showcase, Kaleidascope of Dance by Bend Dance Project, (RE)Visions by Further Movement Dance Collective, Bend Night Market and Global Water Dances.
